Concealers
Concealers are the ideal product to cover a multitude of sins including spots and uneven skin. They are a concentrated form of foundation with a high pigment content, so they offer complete coverage for problem areas.
Concealers are available in a variety of formulations and textures, with each texture benefiting different skin problems. For example a concealer used to cover under-eye areas should be moist and creamy, while spots and broken capillaries are covered best by a concealer with a much drier texture which will adhere better and last longer.
Types of Concealer
Stick Concealers - are a solid cream, and are the most readily available on the market, though not always the easiest to blend. They offer full coverage and are used primarily for hiding some of the more prominent skin discolourations and blemishes. They disguise under-eye circles very well, but as our most delicate skin is under the eye you need to make sure that the texture of the stick is creamy enough to blend easily or you will end up rubbing the skin and drawing attention to the circles, making them appear much worse than they really are.
Cream or Pot Concealers – provide a similar coverage to the stick variety but usually contain more moisturising ingredients, and are not quite as thick, which makes them easier on the eye area. This type can also be found in oil-free formulas that are used to cover discolouration on the rest of the face.
Tube or Liquid Concealers – have a creamier, lighter texture and are less likely to collect in fine lines, making them ideal for mature skins. They provide terrific coverage and can be mixed with moisturiser or foundation to produce a sheerer effect. They are also easy to blend which makes them perfect for the eye area.
Wand Concealers - offer the lightest texture and are great for evenly smoothing out skin tones. If you choose the correct shade you can apply it without foundation as it will blend easily into bare skin. Wand concealers provide a quicker and slightly more dense coverage than liquid foundation, making them great for a quick repair. Some also have a cream to powder formulation which glide on like a cream but dry to a velvety powder finish, which is longer lasting.
Pencil concealers – cover tiny imperfections effectively, such as broken capillaries, blemishes and tiny flaws. Simply draw it on and with an exact colour match there will be no need to blend.
Oil-free Compact Concealers – are best used to cover spots and pimples. Their drier texture will not irritate the blemish.
Highlighting and Reflecting Concealers – hide flaws but do not actually cover. They have light-reflecting properties that refract the light to help minimize shadowy areas. Simply apply to the shadowed area (created by bag or wrinkle) and they brighten the area making it appear less distinct.
