There are hundreds of skincare products on the market. Selecting the right basic products for your daily skincare routine is the first step to better skin.
Facial washes – A liquid wash designed to be lathered up with water to dissolve dirt and stale make up from the skin’s surface.
Cleansing Bars – Will clean your skin without removing the all-important moisture. They are refreshing for oily skin and help to prevent pimples and blackheads.
Ordinary soap is to be avoided as it has a very drying effect for most skin types.
Cream Cleansers – These are excellent for dry complexions. They have a light, fluid consistency and contain oils to dissolve make up and surface dirt.
Astringents and Toners – Refreshing on the skin and evaporate quickly. They remove excess oil from the skin’s surface as well as left-over cleanser.
“Tonic” and “Toner” mean they are gentle and most suited to normal and combination skins. “Astringent” means a product with a higher level of alcohol which is only suited to oily skin. Those with dry or sensitive skin should avoid these products. If a product stings your face, it is too strong for your skin type.
Moisturisers – Form a barrier on the skin surface to prevent moisture loss. The dryer your skin, the thicker your moisturiser should be. Also try to find one that contains a UV filter to protect skin from the aging and burning effects of the sun.
Eye Creams – The skin around your eyes is the most delicate and also the first to show signs of aging. Eye creams contain special ingredients to plump out fine lines and keep the skin soft. They can also reduce puffiness and under eye shadows.
Night Creams – Are very intensive and add nourishment to the skin while you sleep.
